The Boba Carrier 2G Classic and the Beco Butterfly II have many similarities. However each one has some unique features that set them apart. If you’re having trouble deciding between these two soft structured baby carriers, let me point out these differences and hopefully help you decide which is the best baby carrier for you.
First let’s take a quick look at what they have in common. Both the Beco Butterfly and the Boba Carrier offer top quality fabrics such as natural brushed cotton, or 100% organic cotton and polyester. Both baby carriers come with padded shoulder straps and waist belts, sternum straps, removable sleeping hoods, and they both offer front and back carrying positions. Both the Beco Butterfly and the Boba Carrier 2G also have a maximum weight recommendation of 45 pounds.
First of all, the Boba Carrier has a minimum weight recommendation of 15 pounds, and therefore is not intended for newborns. The Beco Butterfly offers a removable infant insert that will accommodate an infant from 6 pounds to 15 pounds.
As I said before, each one has a unique features that sets them apart. The Boba Carrier offers detachable foot stirrups that support proper leg alignment and blood flow, as well as a longer back panel and wider seat. The Beco Butterfly offers an internal sling that enables you to transfer Baby and carrier from front position to back position safely without having to remove your little one. Also, the Beco Butterfly has padded leg holes that keep Baby’s thighs comfortable, and it comes with a removable head rest.
As far as reviews go, they both did really well, but the Boba Carrier 2G did the best. The Beco Butterfly II had 52 out of 64 reviewers rate it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. In other words, 81% of the reviewers were extremely pleased with their purchase. The Boba Carrier 2G had 104 out of 116 reviewers rate it 4 to 5 stars, that’s a 90% customer satisfaction! As for the bad reviews, both soft structured baby carriers received a few complaints about the fact that they do not offer the front facing out carrying position, only front facing in. Also, a couple reviewers stated that the Beco Butterfly was difficult to adjust while wearing, but most baby carriers do come with a learning curve. Same with the Boba Carrier 2G. A few reviewers stated that it takes a bit of practice to figure out how to load and unload your little one. With the internal sling, the Beco Butterfly II proved to be a little bit easier to load and unload. Other than that, most were extremely pleased.
The only other difference was price. The Boba Carrier has a listing price of $100.00, whereas the Beco Butterfly II lists for $139.00 to $149.00, depending on the color scheme you choose. So why is the Beco Butterfly more expensive? Well I think it’s because it’s rated to carry a newborn and up to 45 pounds, whereas the Boba Carrier is only rated for 15 pounds to 45 pounds. So you’d get more use out of the Beco Butterfly II Carrier.
