First let’s look at the similarities. Both the Beco Butterfly II and the Pikkolo Carrier offer front and back, ergonomically correct carrying positions. Both offer padded shoulder straps, as well as a waist belt and sternum strap for weight distribution. Both the Beco Butterfly II and the Pikkolo are also easy to adjust, and offer sleeping hoods.

The Beco Butterfly II is rated to carry a minimum of 6 pounds all the way up to 45 pounds. It also offers a removable infant insert and head rest support. The Pikkolo is rated to carry a minimum of 8 pounds and a maximum of 40 pounds, it does not require, nor does it come with an infant insert.

The Beco Butterfly II offers the front facing in carrying position, as well as the back carrying position. The Pikkolo offers more, with front facing in or out, hip, and back carry. It also allows you to cross the straps in the back when using it in the front carry position, giving you added back support.

The Beco Butterfly II offers a well padded waist belt, and padded leg holes for your little one’s comfort. The Pikkolo Carrier’s waist belt does not come padded, but you can purchase a separate Babywearing Support Belt that attaches to the waist band and offers plenty of padding. If you’re planning on carrying a heavy Baby around, you will need this support belt.

The Pikkolo Carrier offers wide shoulder straps with deluxe memory foam padding which conform to your shoulders. Plus it also offers dual-adjust safety buckles, which means they’re adjustable from both ends, and they require two hands to open therefore avoiding accidental opening. The Beco Butterfly II offers a unique internal sling that enables you to buckle your baby in, then handle baby plus carrier as a single unit. This comes in handy when you want to switch from front carry to back carry.

As far as reviews are concerned, the Beco Butterfly II definitely seems to be the most popular, with 52 out of 64 reviewers rating it 4 to 5 stars, and 5 being the max. In other words, 81% of the reviewers were extremely happy with their purchase.

The Pikkolo doesn’t have as many reviews, but out of 14 reviews, all but 1 rated it 4 to 5 stars. That’s a 93% customer satisfaction rating.

The Beco Butterfly II costs less, depending on the color scheme you choose, plus it offers an internal sling. It also comes with padded shoulder straps, a padded waist belt and padded leg wholes for your baby. The Beco Butterfly II also carries 5 pounds more in weight, and offers a removable infant insert and head support. Plus, you can get it on SALE at Amazon for $135.23.

Pikkolo Carrier

One the other side of the fence, the Pikkolo is more expensive, but it also offers the memory foam padded shoulder straps, and internal x support system. You also get the integrated cinching mechanism for a custom fit, dual-adjust safety buckles, and it offers more carrying positions. Plus, you can get the Pikkolo at Amazon for $129.00. Oh, and don’t forget to get the Pikkolo Support Belt to, currently at Amazon for $25.00.

Personally, I like both of these soft structured baby carriers, but if it were up to me I’d probably choose the Pikkolo Carrier, just because my daughter loves the front-facing out carrying position.
