Baby Bjorn Carriers are some of the most popular baby carriers on the market today.
They allow you to carry your baby right from the start. They’re also extremely easy to use. You can take them on and off easily by yourself, all the adjustments can be made from the front, and their unique two-piece design allows you to transfer your sleeping baby from carrier to crib virtually undisturbed.
Baby Bjorn Carriers offer 2 carrying positions, front facing in and front facing out, and most of them can only be used from 8 pounds up to 26 pounds.
Now for the hard part. Baby Bjorn Carriers come in several different models, each with their own unique features. So how do you decide which one is best? Let’s take a closer look at what each one has to offer.
The Bjorn Carrier Timeline
In the beginning there was the Bjorn Original, offering all of the features I listed above, along with a weight recommendation of 8 to 26 pounds. This award-winning classic was the first of its kind, and really set the bar high for its competition. The Original offered everything a new mom needed, close contact with their little one, safety and reliability, convenience and simplicity, and the ability to carry Baby hands-free!
Next came the Bjorn Carrier Air. It’s design is basically the exact same as the original, the only difference is fabric. The Bjorn Air offers advanced 3D mesh material, making it extremely lightweight and breathable. From the success of these two classic Bjorn Carriers came a new wave of comfort carriers, offering more support and more adjust-ability.
They called the first one the Bjorn Active Baby Carrier. Designed with active parents in mind, this carrier offers adjustable back support and wider shoulder straps that spread Baby’s weight evenly across the back and shoulders, therefore relieving pressure to the lower back. With the Active Carrier, parents can carry their little one for a longer period of time without discomfort.
Then they discovered something. Longer wear combined with close contact, equals body heat. The Active Carrier was definitely more comfortable, but if worn for a long period of time can produce too much body heat. So once again Bjorn went back to the drawing board. They designed a new carrier with the same breathable 3D mesh material found in the Air Carrier, capable of wicking the moisture and heat away from both wearer and baby. They called it the Bjorn Synergy Baby Carrier. With the Synergy came the ability to carry Baby for longer, more comfortably, with back support and breath-ability.
At some point Baby Bjorn decided that it would be nice to have a baby carrier that offered the ability to carry your little one past the previous weight recommendation of 26 pounds. So they went back to the drawing board yet again. They decided that more carrying weight meant that they needed to design a baby carrier with more back support, capable of transferring Baby’s weight to the hips, giving the wearer optimal comfort.
They called it the Bjorn Comfort Carrier. It’s claim to fame is it’s ergonomic waist belt that comes fully adjustable. The Comfort is the only Bjorn Carrier that offers a maximum weight limit of 31 pounds and a minimum weight limit of 13 pounds. That’s up until the age of 2!
The Comfort Carrier not only offers an adjustable ergonomic waist belt, but it also comes equipped with wider shoulder straps that offer more padding, and an additional leg position for older babies, giving them a wider seat and allowing their legs to wrap around the wearer in a more natural way. The waist belt and shoulder straps work together, transferring almost all of Baby’s weight to your hips, and whatever weight is left over is spread evenly across your shoulders and back. The Comfort Carrier is by far the MOST comfortable Bjorn Carrier available.
Now, personally I feel that all of the Baby Bjorn Carriers are pretty amazing, however I’m especially impressed with their newest design. The Bjorn Miracle! It has everything that the other Bjorn Carriers offer, except for the extra 5 pounds more carrying weight that you get with the Comfort Carrier and the extra leg position for older babies. But you do get the adjustable ergonomic waist belt that allows you to transfer Baby’s weight from your shoulders to your hips as Baby gets older and heavier.
The Miracle also comes with extra wide shoulder straps, adjustable back support, adjustable head support for baby that folds down allowing you to carry Baby facing in or out, super easy front adjustments, and it comes in three different fabrics, the soft cotton mix, the airy mesh fabric, and the organic cotton.
