Deuter Kid Comfort II Vs. Kelty Child Carrier – Best Child Carrier

FC 3.0 Kelty Child Carrier Vs. Deuter Kid Comfort IIIf you just happen to be stuck between the Deuter Kid Comfort II and the FC 3.0 Kelty Child Carrier, I might be able to help.

These two backpack child carriers have several similarities, however, there are a few unique features that set them apart.

Similarities:

Both the Deuter Kid Comfort II and the FC 3.0 Kelty Child Carrier offer lightweight aluminum frames, and 5-point adjustable child safety harness’s with adjustable seats. Both backpack child carriers also offer padded shoulder straps, and padded waist belts with storage, as well as adjustable sternum straps, and  ventilated back panels. Both the Deuter Kid Comfort II and the Kelty Child Carrier also offer kickstands and load lifter straps for easy loading and unloading, as well as large storage compartments, and a max load weight of roughly 50 pounds.

Differences:

The Kelty Child Carrier offers an auto-deploy kickstand for easy loading and unloading. It deploys when the shoulder straps are loosened and collapses when they are placed back on the shoulders. The Deuter Kid Comfort II offers a locking kickstand for added safety.

The Kelty Child Carrier also offers a weather protect sun/rain hood, whereas the Deuter Kid Comfort II’s sun/rain shield is sold separately.

The Kelty Child Carrier also offers a zip-off diaper bag, and changing pad, whereas the Deuter Kid Comfort II offers a zippered water belly hydration pocket, and mesh water bottle pockets.

While both backpack child carriers offer a ventilated back panel, the Deuter Kid Comfort II offers 3D air-mesh lining for more breath-ability.

The torso adjustments are slightly different as well. The Kelty Child Carrier offers a sliding torso adjuster activated by a pin. The Deuter Kid Comfort II offers a velcro quick-fit sliding torso-adjuster. Both are quite simple to operate, however the Kelty Child Carrier is a tad bit quicker but it’s also been known to slip on occasion.

The Deuter Kid Comfort II offers side-entry, which makes loading and unloading your little one extremely easy. They can basically load themselves. With the Kelty Child Carrier you have to lift your little one above the seat and feed his/her legs through the wholes.

Lastly, the Deuter Kid Comfort II also offer a Vari-Flex waist belt that pivots and moves with your body. So instead of trudging up the hill with a stiff pack attached to your back, this one moves with you. This is by far the best advantage to the Deuter Kid Comfort Carriers.

As far as reviews go, the Kelty FC 3.0 is by far the most popular. With 63 out of 76 reviewers rating it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. That’s 83% customer satisfaction.

The Deuter Kid Comfort II is not as well known as Kelty and therefore has less reviews. It did have 36 out of 39 reviewers on Amazon rate it 4 to 5 stars. I also looked at 3 different backpacking websites, such as REI, Back County Edge, and Trail Space. I found a total of 14 reviews, all of which rated the Deuter Kid Comfort II 5 stars, that’s 100% customer satisfaction. Also, I personally own the Deuter Kid Comfort II Child Carrier, and I’m 100% satisfied, if that counts for anything.
