So you’ve narrowed it down to two soft structured baby carriers, the ERGO Baby Carrier and the Lillebaby EveryWear Baby Carrier. It’s not an easy decision, both are excellent carriers, lightweight with comfortable padded shoulder straps and waist belts. Both are ergonomically correct, meaning that your child sits rather than hangs. Both the Lillebaby and the Ergo Baby include rain/sun hoods that double as sleeping hoods, and both have storage… I’m not making it any easier to decide, am I?
Although the ERGO Baby Carrier and the Lillebaby are similar, they have some unique features that set them apart. For instance, the Lillebaby offers 5 different carrying positions, front facing in, front facing out, hip, back, and cradle. The ERGO Baby Carrier only has 3, front, back, and hip.
Also, the ERGO Baby Carrier will support a baby from 15 to 39.7 pounds, and can be used with a newborn if you purchase the infant insert sold separately. The Lillebaby supports a child from newborn as well, all the way up to 5 years of age or 42 pounds, without the need for an addition infant insert.
Now, at this point you may think that I’m a Lillebaby enthusiast, but the ERGO Baby Carrier has a few more points of interest. For example, the ERGO is made from 100% cotton batting and has a 400 threads per inch cotton poplin lining and hood. To be perfectly honest, I’m not exactly sure what that means, but all I know is that it’s super comfy, and very warm. I live in western Montana, and you never know what you’re going to get when it comes to the weather. Nine times out of ten, it’s cold, so the cotton lining sounds extremely promising to me. The Lillebaby is made from a more light weight material, and is more ventilated, perfect for warmer climates. ERGO also has thicker 1-inch high density foam shoulder straps and a quarter inch high density neoprene foam waist belt.
ERGO & Lillebaby Customer Reviews:
The ERGO Baby Carrier is extremely popular, and has a huge following. Out of a total of 372 reviews, 323 reviewers gave it 4 to 5 stars out of 5. That is excellent odds. As for the Lillebaby, it only had a total of 47 reviews, with 32 reviewers rating it 4 to 5 stars. However, we have to be fair, the ERGO Baby Carrier has been on the market far longer than the Lillebaby, therefore total reviews doesn’t actually count. So…let’s put it this way, 87% of ERGO Baby Carriers reviewers were extremely pleased, whereas 68% of Lillebaby’s reviewers were extremely pleased. The only real complaint I found when researching the ERGO was that it seemed a little bulky. As for the Lillebaby, some complained that the directions were complicated, however, I do have a solution for that. Visit Lillebaby’s website http://www.lillebaby.com for video instructions on how to use the several positions.
In conclusion, both baby carriers have plenty to offer, and they’re relatively close in price. At the time of writing this article, the ERGO Baby Carrier was currently on sale at Amazon for $90.00, while the Lillebaby EveryWear Carrier was listed for $99.00. Keep in mind that if you’re planning on using the ERGO Baby Carrier for a newborn, you must purchase an infant insert separately, therefore costing you $25 dollars more making ERGO’s total $115.00.
Other things to keep in mind; what kind of climate do you live in? If you live in Florida, you may want to consider the Lillebaby EveryWear Carrier, or if you live in Montana, you may want to consider the ERGO Baby Carrier. What positions are important to you? Do you want the option of front facing out and cradle, if so then you may want to consider the Lillebaby.
